I went ahead and made a tomato cane. I finished it while watching the series finale of Charmed...for the 2nd time. Oh I love that show =) Anyway, as much as I love Angie Scarr and her books with her great tutorials in them, they can be a bit unclear at times and I have to fill in the blanks myself. It's ok though. I love to learn I just wish clay wasn't so expensive here. =) So I am always using my scraps no matter what. I don't throw any of it away! Well, maybe itty bitty teeny weeny useless pieces =)
My first attempt. It didn't turn out the way I had hoped. The middle came out too big and a bit strange. Instructions said flesh pink but I am thinking basically translucent with a teeny bit of red for next time. =)
I'm hoping I'll be able to use them anyway. =)

2nd attempt.
Ok so I had enough clay left to make a second cane. I knew what to do differently so I made a few changes and I still don't like it. I know what is missing now and the middle is still a bit big but I think the color is just way off. This is unbaked though so maybe it will change when its baked? Who knows. I'll be trying this a third time later on. I'm hoping these can be used somehow =) Little sandwiches perhaps? =) Next a cucumber cane!
A slice of tomato cane. Not that great. Oh well! =) it is good for now.
I'm trying to make as many canes as I can. I get a bit distracted sometimes though ;-) There is so much to do! I love practicing and learning how to do things.
Well, since I can't find any miniature shops around here I went ahead and bought a few things off ebay to use. My local hobby store is the size of a shoe box and they carry absolutely no miniatures and they are pretty much the only *big* hobby store in this country. At least that is what I think since I haven't seen anything else. And all the stores are the size of a shoe box here anyway! =) Oh how I miss Michaels and Hobby Lobby!
I can't wait to use these! The plates are so tiny though! It makes me wonder if I've been making my minis a bit too big. Even by 1 or 2 centimeters! I will have to measure a bit better. Or perhaps these are just a bit too small? Doesn't matter though. I will be using them eventually =)
